For over 40 years, Kempster Commercial Refrigeration (KCR) has provided premium commercial refrigeration and air conditioning services to Mackay, Bowen Basin, Central Queensland and surrounding areas.
Locally owned and operated, we pride ourselves on our professional experience and quality workmanship to deliver jobs on time and on budget.
Our commitment to customer satisfaction ensures we build strong relationships with all our customers to instil confidence and reassurance for all work we deliver; now and in the future.
KCR employs 15 staff and is committed to employing apprentices now and into the future, recognising the need for ongoing training for young people, women in trades, rural workforces and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
KCR also sponsors various community clubs and associations, to give back to the Mackay community that has supported the business for the last 35+ years.
Our History
Established in 1978
Wayne Kempster Commercial Refrigeration was established in 1978 by Wayne Kempster. After a short few years, the business thrived and Wayne hired Warren Ford as Service Manager. Will Corby was employed in 1986 as the business’ first apprentice. Working together, Wayne, Warren and Will developed strong professional relationships through both Wayne and Warren providing guidance to Will. Will completed his apprenticeship with Kempster’s in 1991 before heading to Sydney and then Europe where he continued to work as a Refrigeration Mechanic.
With Wayne’s retirement in 2007 and Will’s return to Mackay, Will purchased the business and continues to offer the same high standard of service and workmanship to new and existing customers.
Today, the business is known as Kempster Commercial Refrigeration or shortened to KCR. Will worked alongside Warren until his retirement in 2021. Andrew Emms, having joined the team in 2017, has stepped up to take over Warren’s role as Service Manager.
Will and Andrew continue to be the driving force behind the business, providing invaluable experience and knowledge to younger team members to ensure KCR provides quality, reliable service to all their customers.

Will Corby
Director
35+ years of trade experience.
During his working life, Will has worked installing, commissioning and repairing various types of refrigerated systems including CO2 and Ammonia based systems in the major Australian supermarket chains, food providers, clubs, hotels, petrochemical and medical as well as cold stores.
Leann Hopkins
Accountant
30+ years accounting experience.
30+ years office and accounting experience in industries as diverse as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and IT. A member of CPA Australia for 25 years with Master Degrees in Commerce and Business Administration.
